I can not express how happy I am about this new download from Cydia. Once installed, it will turn your phone into a Google voice texting machine. This download ($2.99, free limited feature trial) will forever change my texting usage. I’ve always loved my Google voice number and the thought of 100% free sms but it just never seemed to work well from my iPhone. Sure there was GV Mobile in Cydia for years and now legitimate Google Voice applications have been released but every time I tried using one of them, I always found myself going back to my stock SMS app. Its just integrated and doesn’t require any workaround or setup. Notifications are 100% reliable and the design is congruent with the rest of my phone.
This download does exactly what you expect and does it perfectly. It makes your stock SMS app send and receive from your Google voice number. It even applied some wizard magic to get my Google voice credentials because I never entered them in. As soon as I downloaded, I used my stock SMS app and sent a text to my wife just as always. In fact, I just replied to our earlier string of messages. I admit I forgot all about it and later found her reply in my GV Mobile+ app. The only reason I didn’t receive her message in my stock notifications is that I’m using the free trial. Once I upgrade to the paid version, all I need to do is create a facebook group called “Uhmmm I lost my phone numba”, spam my friends, then I’ll have 100% completely free texting on my iPhone.
Of course you will need to be jailbroken to download this gem from Cydia. Just search for ‘SMS GV Extension’.
